academic offerings and services,

“The College of Performing Arts
is pro-actively advancing our role
in that process,” Shapiro said. “We
are poised and highly motivated
to reintroduce ourselves to the re-
gion, invite the audiences of today
to explore and get to know us, and
to determine what meaningful per-
forming arts programming looks
like for our varied, yet equally val-
ued, surrounding communities.”
The majority of the College’s cur-
rent programming consists of its
annual public performance sea-
son, with over 60 performances
of music, dance, and theatre, con-
ceived and directed by faculty
who often join with students on
stage as performers. Jazz, orches-
tra, brass, opera, percussion, choir,
wind, early music, musical theatre,
drama, and contemporary dance
grace the College’s four venues
annually. Ticket prices range from

free to $20 for academic perfor-
mances, with many discounted
price categories in between.
Faculty also take the stage for a
free faculty spotlight series each
semester, often collaborating
across artistic disciplines and aca-
demic departments.
The urge to bring an external,
professional series back to Rowan
resulted in the creation of the Ma-
rie Rader Presenting Series, estab-
lished through the Marie F. Rader
Memorial Fund by friends of the
late Marie Rader, a devoted arts
supporter. The aim of the series,
according to Shapiro, is to bring
exceptional artists to Rowan in or-
der to expand arts programming
and enhance the cultural life of the
campus and the region, bolstering
academic programs. The mission
of the series is to create, illumi-
nate, and inspire audiences and
communities by providing excel-
lent performing arts programming
for the public.
