every other global art fair. Those
can cost $10,000 or $20,000 and
up, and can be a prohibitively ex-
pensive risk for most small and
medium sized galleries – but the
reality of the art business is that
art fairs have become essential
venues for collectors and buyers,
and so galleries often have to take
those risks.
How many artists took place in
the fair for 2019? Were many
pleased by the response they
received?
I don’t have an exact number
of artists, but the best guess is
well over 300. There were 38 art-
ists who qualified for the Juried
Show – we will be expanding that
to around 70 in 2020 – and most
of the 57 exhibition rooms had
multiple artists, some had several
dozen artists.
The feedback we got was that
the artists were very pleased.
Even those whose work didn’t sell

that weekend were gratified by
the enthusiasm of the thousands
of people who attended, and the
many people in the art world who
attended and took notice of their
work.
In the months since the first fair,
we’ve heard about artists getting
commissions, getting representa-
tion by galleries, getting shows
and numerous other opportuni-
ties, all thanks to connections
made at Art Fair 14C.
Who is the typical artist/art
gallery to participate? Do they
have a brick and mortal store or
do most sell from a website and
shows?
One of the strengths, and
unique features, of Art Fair 14C
is that there is no typical exhibi-
tor. The art fair was created in
large part to address the new
challenges of the art world, as
the traditional brick and mortar
gallery becomes an endangered
business model.
