“We also do an opening night
party, which usually incorporates
some sort of arts element,” con-
tinued Penkrat. “There’s usu-
ally a music performance and
sometimes a different type of
performance; it’s varied every
year. There’s visual arts, sculp-
tures, multi-media art, that’s for
the community that kicks off the
whole event.”
Thirty years ago, artists were
still moving into places like Jer-
sey City because the rents were
cheaper than in New York City.
But today, it is a thriving arts
scene of its own - one that is at-
tracting talent from all over the
world. The studio tour is a great
way to see all that’s happening in
the city.
“Our art scene is super vibrant,
and really rich,” said Penkrat.
