Breckinridge County Middle School
Students at Breckinridge County Middle School are studying
Greek Temple Architecture and creating their own artwork.
Presently, they have studied the two Greek orders Doric and Ionic.
Students learned that the Doric style is rather sturdy and its top or
capital is plain and that this style was used in mainland Greece.
Students learned that the Ionic style is thinner and more elegant
and its capital is decorated with a scroll-like design or volute. This
style was found in eastern Greece and the islands. Students also
created their own scratch art paper and carved away to reveal
designs similar to those found in Greek ceramic work.
Please see BCMS student samples of Doric and Ionic architecture
along with their ceramic work.
