STAFF PICKS BCPL Staff May 2016 Breckinridge County Public Library News and Events WHAT CAN’T WE DO? By now, the staff at Breckinridge County Public Library hopes that everyone knows about all of the wonderful things we can help our patrons do at BCPL. The staff happily bring patrons all the help the staff can provide with a variety of needs or wants the patrons may have, and the staff also seeks to present programs that will appeal to people of all ages. However, although BCPL can do a lot for its patrons, there are some things that the library just can’t do for various reasons. Here are three of the most common issues the library faces. One main way that the staff cannot help a patron is with filling out personal information on computers. While the staff may guide a person to a website or help open the correct form or document, they cannot fill out the information for the patron. If you feel that you don’t have adequate knowledge to type this information yourself, please bring someone to assist you. Although the library previously provided this service many years ago, the library does not order books for people for their own personal collection. If the library does not own a book that a patron wishes to read, he or she may request that the library purchase the book for checkout or request an interlibrary loan at the cost of a dollar. Finally, the library is not a daycare. The staff members are not responsible for babysitting children in the library. Kids ages 12 and above may visit the library without parental presence, and kids ages 16 and above may visit and hold responsibility for a younger sibling. In all other instances, parental supervision is required for the library visit, and a library staff member will call the police if the supervision requirement is not met by the parent(s). The only exception is if the child stays for a library program during summer reading, and parents must return within 30 minutes of the beginning of the program’s starting time. SUMMER READING Summer reading begins next month, and this year’s theme is “On Your Mark, Get Set...Read!” What can parents and kids expect this year? Here are a few of the different programs BCPL will offer. Preschoolers will meet every Thursday for some fun stories and activities. On June 20th-24th, we will have a cheerleading camp. Some other, fun one-time programs will be the Honey Hill Petting Zoo, Community Helpers program, Animal Tales, Kentucky Reptile Zoo, and a Water Balloon Fight. These are just some of the offerings we will have this year, but you must remember to register in order to participate. A full list of activities is currently located at the front desk.
