Warm flesh transformed to solid gold. A seabird drawn from the corpse of a lover drowned. Gods in guises wreck ships and bend passions, while tears of love are shed so hot that hell itself consents to give up the damned... on one condition.

Based on a collection of poems by the Roman poet Ovid, Mary Zimmerman's “Metamorphoses” explores classic myths in decidedly contemporary fashion, providing a post-modern twist on ancient tales.
