Grid Drawings
The grid’s representational capabilities have long
been put to use in a multitude of fields, throughout
history. Ancient civilizations developed and
appropriated the grid as a tool to create, adorn,
study, project, map and calculate.
Visual cultures, in particular the constructivist,
geometric, and non-objective works of the most
recent centuries have in one way or another
incorporated the grid´s plasticity and adaptability
for art making.
The Grid, as an artificial construct, can be a way to
express spatial organization for pictorial and
abstract iterations but can also be a flexible and
disruptive system.
The series entitled “Grid Drawings” examines the
variability
and
tenseness
between
the
geometricized Euclidean space and the lines and
elements that escape the system at the hand of the
intuitive eye.
