Reflection CKV
During my two years of following Arts and Culture classes, I have developed myself in a substantial
amount of ways. I have grown in a cultural manner. I have learned to understand several different
forms of art, which in hindsight, I would have never experienced if I was not motivated to do so. I
have experienced many different kinds of art, which has definitely broadened my view on the many
possibilities art offers, to both the public and the artists. I have learnt to understand the definition of
art a bit better, even though it still is, and always will be an abstract term.
I have visited many plays, shows, performances by different artists. I have visited opera, classical
music, modern music, ballet, theatre, and a lot more! But not only did I visit performances of any
kind, I have also visited museums to broaden my view on different kinds of art.
One of the things that was most surprising for me was visiting the ballet. Beforehand I had always
had a set picture in my head if I heard the word ‘’ballet’’, which was girls in ‘’tútú’s’’ spinning, twirling
and twisting over the stage, inserting a jump or two, and that’s it. However I found out that ballet is
so much more than that. It is a passionate performance which is ought to make the audience feel in
the way the performers want them to. In hindsight, I couldn’t have been more wrong about this form
of art.
Classical music however, by the ‘’Gelders Orkest’’ with music from ‘’Sjostacovic’’, was as good, if not
even better than I expected it to be. Personally I adore listening to what youtube calls ‘’epic music’’,
which is pretty much exactly was what I witnessed in this performance. The performance was too
short for my liking, I could have sat there for many more hours, greatly enjoying the great music.
Also the theatre performance I witnessed was incredible. For the actors to be able to perform in such
a small space, with such little room for props, was simply amazing. Seeing this performing really did
change my view on plays and theatre in general. I have learnt what it can do to the audience, and
how it can affect them in every way.
The modern music was also very nice to witness, if you can call it modern music at all. I went to see
Mike Oldfields’ Tubular bells performed by two young men. Everyone has heard a part of this piece
of music at some point in their life. The performance was outstanding, the performers did an
amazing job playing this music, and this was proved by the audiences appreciation for the two young
men. This performance did not necessarily change me in a substantially important way, but it did
contribute to my general feel of art. I loved seeing this performance, and would not doubt to see it
again.
Even though beforehand I did not always feel like going, because I expected it to be incredibly dull, or
just uninteresting in general. But as soon as I sat there and witnessed the performance, I was glad
that I went after all, and it always left me feeling satisfied.
These two years of Art and Culture have changed my view on art as a whole. I learnt to understand
the meaning of the artists, understand the meaning of the play. I have learnt to appreciate art in
mostly ever shape it comes. These two years have developed me in a way I could not have developed
myself.
