FINAL REFLECTION ARTS & CULTURE IN MY TWO YEARS OF CKV I HAVE EXPERIENCED MANY NEW AND DIFFERENT ART FORMS, MANY OF WHICH I WOULDN’T HAVE KNOWN OR LIKED OTHERWISE. AT FIRST I WAS QUITE SCEPTICAL ABOUT THIS SUBJECT SINCE I HEARD FROM OT HER PEOPLE THAT YOU DON’T REALLY DO ANYTHING AND THUS IT IS PRETTY USELESS. PARTIALLY THIS IS TRUE. HOWEVER I THIN K I’VE LEARNED MORE THAN I CONSCIOUSLY K NOW. MUSICBefore my first year of CKV I absolutely hated classical music, I thought it was dull and I usually nearly fell asleep. During these two years I developed at least some appreciation for this type of music. I actually think it sounds quite beautiful and I respect the musicians more than I did before. I still do not listen to it myself that often but when it is on I do not hate it. I think going to concerts like HGO helped with that and also a film about Mozart. FILMSAs a class we also saw a lot of films especially during the first year. I think we all agreed that they were at least a bit odd. For example, there was a film about a family and one day the father took this rat home from his work at a lab and they all liked the rat. But then the rat started biting them, which made them all change to either depressed or some sexual beast. It was I think a French movie and maybe that is a genre they like there but I most definitely did not. Another example is a Danish movie with a bunch of mentally challenged people that was somewhat strange. In my second year of arts and culture I went to the film ‘Twelve years a slave’ which I thought was really impressive. It was horrifying to see how they handled this person as cattle, a good that could be sold and bought. I did learn that people can vary a lot in their sense of what makes a good film and how culture can therefore affect art. DANCEDance-wise there wasn’t much new to me except for the ballet. I dance myself so I already really liked all kinds of dance styles and choreographers, who I learned about by watching dance shows on television. DRAMA I have seen the Staats opera van Tatarstan performing rigoletto. I recognized that very famous melody also used in pizza commercials and that was about it. I think this says enough about my feelings towards opera but I’ll explain. First of all these people are actually talented and they can act and sing so nothing against them. However it was in a language I do not understand and the translation wasn’t too well. And I just did not get the story partially because at first I did not know who was who. And it was incredibly long so my attention faded.
