CA3 – ‘Intouchables’ Iliana Put What is the film about? Intouchables tells the true story about the from his chin till his toe paralyzed Philippe. As he is searching for a person to take care of him. When Driss appears because he needs three signatures in order to get his social benefit payment(uitkering). However, instead of getting this payment Driss is offered the job. As he takes care of Philippe they grow towards each other and become close friends. Nevertheless Driss has to quit at the end because his family needs him. When he returns because Philippe is deteriorating, Driss arranges a date for Philippe with his pen-friend and that’s the end of the film. What did I know about the film before I saw it? A good friend of me had already seen the film and she almost forced me to watch it since she liked it so much. She said it was a touchy film and then she made a joke that it was also called inTOUCHables so I didn’t forget the name of the film. Why did I choose to do my CA3 about this film? The reason I’ve chosen to do my CA3 about this film is because, as I watched the film I found out that this was not just a regular film but the film did something to me. I got this certain feeling from it that I can’t really explain. I just really got into the story and it felt like I sort of needed to ‘wake up’ if someone put in on pause or so. The film really did something to me which was the decision making reason for me to do my CA about this film. Why is this film so special to me? This film is so special to me because it is not just a film like all the others, instead of all other films this film had the genre comedy and drama. Even though Philipe is paralyzed he still has a good sense of humor and he still wants to enjoy life. When Driss appears in Philipe’s life, humor appears with him. It is already funny that Driss and Philipe are the complete opposites of each other. Driss is black, young, poor and has a big family. Contrary, Philipe is a white, old, rich and only member left from his family. What was my overall experience from the film? The film amazes me so much because, like I said before, the way in which the genres comedy and drama are combined. The jokes are fun but at the same time show the dramatic part of someone being paralyzed. For example at a scene in the movie in which Driss figures out that Philipe is actually totally paralyses and kind of puts Philipe’s paralysis to the test by pouring hot tea over his legs. Another funny scene is the one in which Driss shaves Philipe and makes fun of him while Philipe can’t do anything about these jokes since he’s paralyzed. In a mean time Philipe also has a lot of fun when Driss is making fun of Art dealers and classical orchestras. Occasionally Driss smokes a joint and lets Philipe have some too. The beautiful thing of this 9
