CA 8 Review on Cookies by Oostpool Iliana Put, e5a, CKV Fresh, Creepy and a bit complicated You know them; those virtual parasites which you have to give permission to on practically every website. They plant themselves into your computer to basically drown you in personalized advertisements. Have you, for example, been looking for a new camera or a flight ticket to Ibiza, then you will have all sorts of ads on camera’s and flight tickets next to your facebook-timeline. This is exactly what happens to Mark, the protagonist of Cookies by theatre Oostpool. What happens? Mark and Kat have a relationship. Together, they live in a very modern house and they wear modern clothes, which can be seen by all the price tickets that are still on their clothes. As usually there are no groceries and when Mark comes home they start talking about their day. Mark tells Kat about a girl he met that day at restaurant Zouk. The girl had a birthmark on her forehead and Mark found her very attractive which of course annoys Kat a bit. Suddenly this girl shows up at Mark and Kat’s place, Kat can’t see her, and she throws Marks life completely upside down as she tries to convince him that he needs to get ‘more out of him’. The three actors play fantastic; everything goes smooth and it’s comical. However, the piece is very fast and I find it somewhat complicated. The girl with the birthmark seems to be able to not only fill Mark’s fridge but also empty spaces in Mark’s life. She appears, disappears and changes into Kat. To me it probably was equally confusing as it was for Mark. But then his intuition suddenly inspires him. He gets behind his computer and deletes all his cookies. Now all seems to be solved, or not? 16
