CA7 ‘Museum Arnhem’
Iliana Put, e5a, CKV
On Saturday the 15th of March, I went to the ‘Museum Arnhem’ in Arnhem with my mom. I didn’t
go to a museum for any of my ca’s yet so I thought if anything has to do with culture it must be a
museum. Next to that, I chose to go to ‘Museum Arnhem’ because it is a modern museum. I
figured that a modern museum would most appeal to me since I’m not that old and long stories
about all wars that happened before I was born don’t interest me at all.
We went there by car, but parked so far away from the museum that we still had to walk for
about 10 minutes to get to the museum. The first thing that stood out to me was that there was a
walking route painted on the pavement eventhough we were about 10 minutes away from the
museum. When we entered the museum we first came into the museum shop, which I didn’t like
because to me it kind of shows that it’s not about the art at all but just about the money, like
always. Anyway, we bought our tickets and went into the ‘real’ museum. The first thing that I saw
was a video of an art performance by Marie Julia Bollansée called ‘Red String’. In the video she
walks in a quite structured route through the garden while leaving a thread from the red woolen
dress she is wearing. According to the card
hanging next to the small tv, she ‘wants to create
awareness about the often invisible structures in
today’s society’. I didn’t really like the
performance though. I feel like if you want to
show your crowd something than it has to be clear
in your video. Not on the card hanging next to the
tv explaining everything you are doing or trying to
do.
Something that I did really like was that there
had been an art contest in schools nearby. I
didn’t agree with the judges though because I
liked the one who was 3rd best. It was a close
up made by Lou van de Lustgraaf from havo 4.
Her work was called ‘D(r)aadkracht’ and it was
supposed to really show the ‘daadkracht’ in
her work. Unlike Marie Julia’s performance, in
Lou’s work you could really see her idea
behind the work. Besides I also really liked the
technique that she used. I found it very original
and it contributed positively to the idea behind
Lou’s art work.
