The plunder of Rome in 1527 calls Michelangelo to defend the city against Charles V and his army. He is also the one to watch over the barricading of the city. In 1546 he is made chief architect regarding the completion of St. Peter’ s church in Rome. The plans belong to Donato Bramade, however Michelangelo designs the church’ s dome which is constructed before Michelangelo’ s death but it is put into place after it.
