ARTA Retiree Benefits Plan Coverage The ARTA Retiree Benefits Plan includes coverage for certain diabetic supplies, including diabetes test strips, insulin pumps and transmitters, and their required supplies and sensors. Keep in mind there may be maximum coverage amounts allowed under the ARTA Retiree Benefits Plan—check the plan booklet 23 , available for download from the ARTA website, for detailed coverage information. If you reside in Alberta, the Coverage for Seniors Benefit also includes coverage for diabetic supplies for insulin-dependent diabetics. As of November 1, 2018, up to $600 per eligible person, per year is covered for diabetic supplies purchased from a licensed pharmacy, with no co-payment amount. Diabetic supplies include needles, syringes, lancets, and both blood glucose and urine testing strips. Insulin pumps may be covered through the Insulin Pump Therapy Program for Alberta residents with type 1 diabetes that meet eligibility and clinical criteria 24 . If you reside in British Columbia, the Fair PharmaCare Plan includes coverage for blood glucose test strips (the maximum quantity of which is covered being dependent on whether you are managing diabetes with insulin or other anti-diabetes medications), needles and syringes, and insulin. The plan, however, does not cover a pharmacy dispensing fee charged for obtaining insulin. Keep in mind there is a deductible amount you have to satisfy before the BC Fair PharmaCare plan begins to cover you for diabetes supplies. If you reside in any other province or territory, we advise you to review the coverage specific to your home province or territory. 28
