Instructions:

Step 1:

Begin by gluing the sheet of

Cork to the wood. Allow

to dry completely before

beginning to hammer the nails.

If you are not fond of the

appearance of the cork, you

may paint the cork either

before or after adhering it to the

wood.If you are planning on hanging

your finished piece on a wall, attach

the hanging strips before beginning

to work with the nails and string.

Step 2:

Tape your pattern onto the cork.

Be sure to tape the pattern in the

exact middle of your board, as any

slight shift from the middle will be obvious.

Set 3:

Lightly insert the nails into the

cork by hand and finish by

hammering them into the wood.

I did mine in batches of about 5 nails.

Step 4:

After all of the nails have

been inserted, carefully remove the pattern.

Step 5:

After all of the nails have been

inserted, carefully remove the

pattern.

Step 6:

Start by tying your embroidery

floss around one nail, leaving

a tail. Wrap your floss around

the nails, using the pattern as a

guide. Be sure to work in sections so that your pattern is apparent in the end (for example, I had to be sure to leave the blank space

in the eyes). And if you don’t like

the way something works, just

unravel the string and start over!

Step 7:

Once you are satisfied with your

work or get to the end of the string,

tie the end around a nail, again

leaving a tail.

Step 8:

Using either your fingers or your

embroidery needle, thread the

tails into and underneath your work.
