Les Demoiselles d’Avignon can be divided into three parts by colors. On the left side where its background color is read, there is a woman who turns toward other women in her left side. In the middle, there are two females on white background staring at us. On the right side, there are two grotesque looking women on blue color background. I am going to ‘read’ Les Demoiselles d’Avignon with its background colors.

Before, it is necessary to know what each color means for. Usually, ‘Red’ means love, affection, or philanthropy. ‘White’ stands for equality. ‘Blue’ is meaning of freedom or liberty.

As I mentioned just before, ‘Red’ stands for love or philanthropy. When you look closely, you can see the woman in red curtain, the very left figure in Les Demoiselles d’Avignon, poses differently. Unlike other figures in painting, she is not looking at us, the audiences. Yet, she is staring other women who are in her left side. Her body is completely twisted toward her left. Her foot is toward her left, the rest of figures.
