“Veggie Art Girl” is the alternative identity of the funky freelance artist Stacey Lucas. Stacey has the ability to create art from literally anything! Ms. Lucas attended Plymouth State University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Art and a minor in English. She is a graphic designer for her business “Veggie Art Girl” and she owns “Fig Tree Gallery” in Ashland, New Hampshire. Her pieces are created through various materials that she collects from local junkyards!! Stacey is a mommy to one adorable little boy named Harper. The bright colors of her work are captivating. Her pieces truly make you want to be more upbeat. The “tone” or mood of her work directly correlate to how she is feeling, so this woman “sees the glass half full” always! Today, I am sitting with Ms. Stacey Lucas to find out who is Veggie Art Girl.

When did you first discover you were an “artist”?

“I have always loved art and anything creative, though it was not encouraged as a career. My grandmother sat me down one day before she passed away and told me that I should follow my heart in whatever I do and if art makes me happy, to do that. :)”

What is/are your biggest inspiration(s)?

“Jim Henson. He changed the world by gluing 2 ping pong balls to his mother's green coat and creating Kermit the Frog. I used to tape the Muppet Show (on VHS) and watch it in slow motion so see the sets and puppets move. He was brilliant.

Today? My six-year old son. He is in everything I create.”

What is your favorite type of art to work on/with (medium and materials)?

“Wood and paint! Folk art is my favorite, painting on recycled stuff I find at thrift stores and the dump. I love to add words to my works!”

In your opinion, which is more important: the process or the product?

“The process. Seems the product sells better when the customer can relate to the process: what materials I used and how I got there. No two pieces of art I create are even remotely similar, and I do not plan anything out beyond simple sketches. So, it is always amazing even to me what the process becomes with each piece.”
