CM: The new Barbarian archetype is out, which is why there are terrorists. There are also the Pirate and the Renegade archetypes. There are a lot of archetypes that have awakened that tell us our societies – all of them - are losing control of themselves. And on the positive side, there are new Visionaries. There are ground-breaking Visionaries laying the paths out for the foundations for the next world, for the new world, the solar world, if you will – and I mean solar and “soul-er” world – because we are between worlds. We are leaving the fossil world. We’re entering the solar world and we are between civilizations, which is why it’s such an extraordinary and volatile time to be alive. There are a lot of Wizards alive right now. The Wizard archetype - that’s what Harry Potter is about. A lot of ingenious Wizards are imagining great things of what could be and new possibilities, and they are people who imagine great energy technology or who are trying to figure out ways to fuel the planet. However, there are dark Wizards and there are light Wizards. Monsanto is a dark Wizard - they are doing terrible things with seeds. Fracking is dark wizardry, although there has got to be a way to find alternative fuels and hopefully there are light Wizards doing that. I don’t think there is a significant number of Spiritual Visionaries, but I think there are some genuine spiritual masters who are out and about. I think many of them we don’t know and that a lot of them have simply and hopefully gone into a quiet place just to pray. If they are smart, they’re off the radar. I think that archetypes like Princess, Knight, King and Queen are getting dismantled because they are just not necessary anymore. We are evolving out of that era.
A&I: Why do you think that there has been this shift in focus from the spiritual motivation that characterized the generation preceding those who are now in their 20s and 30s, as you mentioned earlier?
CM: My generation had a very overt quest for leaving the traditional and truly, deeply searching. And that’s not the focus of people who are in their 20s and 30s today. The pendulum has swung. Purpose and meaning are not significant in the same way for them. I think their focus has to be in a different place, which is environmental salvation. They have to survive in new ways, and they have got to be realistic and grounded about their survival. They are facing 60 years, 70 years of rough times. I won’t be here but theirs is going to be a very rough ride. Theirs is a much more practical focus because it has to be. Ours was about breaking barriers between worlds. And now theirs is laying the foundation for the world they need to live in - and surviving the breakdown of the world they are living.
A&I : C’est une sacrée chose, de ne pas en faire un conflit personnel, de vraiment voir ce qui se passe de manière archétypale dans votre propre vie, et d’assumer vos propres choix. Au niveau global, quels sont selon vous les modèles archétypaux majeurs qui circulent de nos jours et qui requièrent notre attention immédiate ?
CM : Le nouvel archétype du Barbare, qui explique pourquoi il y a des terroristes. Il y a aussi l’archétype du Renégat et du Pirate. Il y a de nombreux archétypes qui sont apparus et qui nous disent que nos sociétés (toutes confondues) sont en train de perdre le contrôle d’elles-mêmes. Et, du côté positif, il y a les nouveaux Visionnaires. Il y a des Visionnaires novateurs qui mettent en place les chemins menant aux fondations du prochain monde, le nouveau monde, le monde solaire si vous voulez (je parle de monde solaire aussi bien que d’un monde avec un peu plus d’âme) parce que nous sommes entre des mondes. Nous quittons le monde fossile. Nous entrons dans le monde solaire, nous sommes entre des civilisations, ce qui explique pourquoi c’est une époque si extraordinaire et explosive que nous vivons. Il y a beaucoup de
Sorciers en vie en ce moment. L’archétype du Sorcier, c’est ce dont parle Harry Potter. De nombreux Sorciers ingénieux imaginent de nouvelles possibilités, de grandes choses sur ce qui pourrait être, et ce sont des gens qui imaginent des technologies de l'énergie ou qui essaye de trouver des moyens pour ravitailler la planète. Cependant, il y a les Sorciers sombres et les Sorciers blancs. Monsanto est un Sorcier sombre, ils sont en train de faire des choses terribles avec les semences. Le forage est aussi de la sorcellerie sombre, bien qu’on ait besoin de trouver de nouveaux carburants alternatifs et espérons qu’il y a les Sorciers blancs qui s’en occupent. Je ne pense pas qu’il y ait un nombre significatif de Visionnaires Spirituels, mais je pense qu’il y a quelques maîtres spirituels sincères un peu partout. Je pense que pour la plupart, on ne les connaît pas et qu’il y en a beaucoup qui se sont humblement (et heureusement) retirés dans un endroit tranquille, simplement pour prier. S’ils sont intelligents, ils restent à l’écart. Je pense que les archétypes comme celui de la Princesse, du Chevalier, du Roi et de la Reine sont en train de disparaître parce qu’on n’en a plus forcément besoin. On évolue dans une autre époque.
`A&I : Pourquoi pensez-vous qu’il y a eu ce changement d’orientation dont vous parliez précédemment, qui a suivi la motivation spirituelle qui caractérisait la génération avant ceux qui sont à présent dans la vingtaine-trentaine ?
