Set up: I tend to work on several
series simultaneously. I tend to be
developing a series of large two
dimensional works, a series of small
two dimensional works, and a series
of three dimensional works
simultaneously. I enjoy the
conversation that goes on between
the works, specifically in terms of
scale and speed, and the way it frees
me up to experiment. I tend to work
with many of the same types of
colors and processes within each
series.
Evolution of style: I have been
inspired by imagery and forms from
nature as far back as I can
remember. I’m moved by the way
creation and nature speaks of God,
as life-giving entities. It’s important
for me to work with forms that have
a connection to life. I’ve
experimented with various levels of
representation and abstraction over
the years and feel like now I have a
balance that communicates my
current vision in way that’s exciting
for me.
Conception of work: I have a
relatively fixed visual vocabulary I
tend to pull from in most of my work
while being very motivated by
experimentation, physicality, and
materiality. I utilize material and
sensory experience as a means to
explore meaning. Material is worked
until there is a shift into another
realm: fabric becomes flesh, a sack,
