Brokeback mountain Broke back mountain is a 2005-movie directed by Ang Lee. The story of the movie is about two young men, who meet at Brokeback mountain. They are both hired to herd sheep. During this long months of isolation an unusual relationship starts to develop between them. When the season ends, they have to part ways. It’s only then they realize the true depth of their feelings. Thus begins a live-long affair, that they desperately try to hide from others. An affair that will turn out both beautiful and devastating. The theme of the movie is star-crossed love. In short the movie is about how society presses their love down, but also about the struggle with their selves to accept their nature. The reason why I wanted to see this movie is because it is pretty famous. I was curious to the reason why so many people were enthusiastic about this movie. Also because I knew that this movie fell within the genre of art house movie. This raised my interest because I like a good art house movie at times. The movie itself is film adaption of the short story ’Brokeback mountain’ written by Annie Proulx. This story was published in 1997. the movie was directed by Ang lee. Ang lee is a film director, screenwriter and producer from Taiwan. He has directed a diverse set of films such as ‘sense and sensibility’, ‘crouching tiger hidden dragon’ and ‘life of pi’. Ang lee is known for setting down deep-layered characters, who have the opportunities to develop themselves. Ang lee is influenced by Asian movies, but he also looks at European and American movies. This is visible in his own movies because his movies are definitely not ‘stereotype’ , also a lot of different cultures are seen in his movies.
