Alps, and this is something you can hear. The second album is overall more calmed down than the first album. While this may sound as
something negative, it turned out very well because this gave them the chance to develop themselves and their music.
In Di-rect all members have their own taste of music and preferences. This is also something you can hear in the music, because all of the
members have their influences in the music. For example you can hear spike’s influence by the sometimes aggressive guitar riffs through the
music. And Marcel’s influence is noticeable by the trance-like sometimes even religious rhythms. Also other bands can be heard in the music
like: arcade fire and snow patrol but also sometimes bands like: the doors and Fleetwood mac. The one main band who influenced them would
be ‘The Who’. The way they built up their songs and the guitar solos can make you immediately think back about The Who. I wouldn’t say that
they are the new ‘the Who’ but you can hear the band’s influence. Also because Di-rect does covers from their songs at times.
The tour Di-rect did in 2012 was the ‘time will heal our senses tour’. So this tour’s purpose was to promote the album and to let the fans hear
the songs live. As an attendant, and a fan I can say that they gave a pretty awesome performance.
One of the things I really like about di-rect is how well they play live. And they made this happen again in the Metropool. The first thing you
notice is the high level of energy they give not only to each other but also the audience. The members of the band are all so energetic without
getting annoying. This clearly has its effect upon the audience, because at every performance they gave and I’ve attended the band completely
knew how to get the audience with them. With only one small gesture they get the whole audience to start jumping and clapping. Because the
audience could all just feel the energy that was given to them by the band members.
The love and passion all the band members have is something that was clearly visible throughout this concert. At times Marcel closed his eyes
and got into a sort of trance. And this is beautiful, to see
someone totally get into the music.
It also shows of the unique personalities the band has. They
don’t care about the public
opinion. They just do what they like, and if that isn’t what you
like you can go away. And that
attitude really attracts me.
Not only did they play very well, no sloppy work to be heard at
could be heard in this performance. Their songs came completely
live completely showed how the songs were intended, and the
di-rect. But also their musicality
to their right. The way they played
energy they all contain. But also
