Books Puoi ammirare l’arte ovunque intorno a te; ma sei davvero sicuro di conoscere gli artisti? The 25th Hour KaMeRu Verlag T ranslated from the original German, Die 25. Stunde, the much-anticipated English version of this book finally emerges onto the literary scene as The 25th Hour . Written by Katarina Madovčik and Ruben M. Mullis, the original was published in 1999 by the two authors who founded KaMeRu Verlag (publishing house) solely with a view to bringing this thrilling œuvre to realisation. The English translation was completed in 2001 but the story has since then sat and matured until becoming available in both print and electronic formats in January 2015. This pulsating detective novel takes place in the newly-unfolding Russia of the late 1990s, when many somewhat unsavoury entrepreneurs were out to make their mark on the new economy. The atmosphere, the ‘ambience’ painted by the authors, thoroughly saturates the reader with a colourful view of Moscow and the lives of those newly acquainted with capitalism. The authors introduce Inspector Nikita Morosov of the Moscow police force to a stream of religious murders perpetrated by one who follows the voice of an angel. This is not a spoiler, so much is apparent as one climbs into the first few pages. Intertwined within this fast-paced and surprisingly dramatic storyline is Inspector Morosov’s relationship with police pathologist Yekaterina Lenskaya, as well as Morosov suffering the pressure of a KBG colonel breathing down his neck, a retired decorated war hero trying to create another fog to cover his own plans and an intriguing web of cunning and deceit swirling around the shadowy halls of a monestary. Add to this a ferry boat crossing the Barents Sea loaded with a very special cargo, a crew of some very suspicious characters, some surprisingly innocent passengers and a dangerous storm on their horizon, and The 25th Hour delivers a story full of plot twists and turns and fast-paced, high-energy pursuits with an almost guide-book quality, street-by-street overview of Moscow. Few first-time authors achieve such a sense of reader inclusion in a story as the KaMeRu couple have with The 25th Hour. This publication illustrates the apodictic storytelling mastery of the authors and provides the reader with a remarkable journey in which to bury themselves for the duration.
