Director’s Foreword
The Chazen Museum of Art has presented quadrennial exhibitions
of the work of the University’s art faculty since 1974, when the museum was known as the Elvehjem Art Center. These comprehensive
exhibitions showcase the achievements of individual faculty members
and highlight artistic developments in the department as a whole. Every four years brings something new and exciting. Longtime faculty
members may have explored new art forms since the last show, and
new faculty members introduce their work to the community. One
constant is the broad range of media—drawing, sculpture, painting, graphics, photography, ceramics, woodwork, metalwork, glass,
textiles, printmaking, video, installation, performance, and computer-generated art—all taught and practiced on campus. The exhibition
not only reflects the creativity and dynamism of the department
itself, but also of the current national art scene.

designed by Jeff Weyer, and adeptly edited by the Chazen’s editor,
Kirstin Pires. Ann Sinfield, the museum’s chief registrar was instrumental in coordinating with the art department and individual
faculty members to implement the exhibition, and Anne Lambert,
the museum’s curator of education, arranged for faculty gallery talks
throughout the exhibition.

The 2016 exhibition is installed throughout the Pleasant T. Rowland
and the Leslie and Johanna Garfield Galleries. This year twenty-eight
faculty members, one instructional specialist, nine emeritus faculty
along with two printmakers from Tandem Press are represented in
the show. Each artist selected his or her own work to be exhibited.
The show was designed by Jerl Richmond, the museum’s exhibition
designer, and he deserves special acknowledgment for working with
forty different artists and eighty-six disparate pieces of artwork to
