Artist’s statement
This work was influenced by my trip to Havana in the early summer
of 2015. I was there during the Havana Biennial and had an opportunity to speak with artists and see lots of contemporary Cuban Art.
Having grown up in an age during which Cuba was anathema from
the perspective of United States government policy, I wanted to make
as many people-to-people contacts as possible. My impressions of this
experience, in the context of some fifty years on the other side of the
veil that separates our two countries, is the basis for this work.
