I first met artist Brandy Seistrup last
summer. She was part of an art event in
the Garland Business District and as I
approached her booth I was struck by
her colorful, swirling ink creations. Her
display was unique, beautiful, and held
a broad range of subjects: landscapes,
pours, animals, fan art and cryptids. Being
somewhat of a Pacific Northwest cryptid
nerd I ended up buying two of her Sasquatch
prints. They were just too fun to
resist!
The artist herself is also fun. Fun and
driven. She has plans for her future and a
brave, can-do attitude that makes me believe
she’ll achieve them.
M.J.: Hi Brandy, please tell our readers
where you are from and how you got here.
Brandy: I’m fairly new to Spokane. I
moved here about two years ago from
San Diego, California. I joke that I’m
American and not really from anywhere
because we moved around the country as
I was growing up. At the end of the day, I
call Louisville, Kentucky my hometown.
M.J.: When did you first recognize your
love of art?
Brandy: I believe I have always had a
love of the arts. I credit my mother for
that. She could see how important it was
for my development and helped cultivate
my interest in art into a love for it.
M.J.: Do you think all that moving
around helped shape your art?
Brandy: I don’t know if it helped so much
in the exact type of art I do, but having the
experiences of the different cultures and
people made a big difference.
