ART CHOWDER MAGAZINE
ach fall, the CDA Arts & Culture Alliance hosts Kids Draw Architecture, a
program providing an opportunity for young artists and future architects to work
with local experts as they sketch buildings, public art, artifacts, and landscapes while
learning about how our community’s architecture and art represents us as a culture.
Until recently, the program has been held in town, focusing on the more contempo-
rary buildings and public art.
Last year, and planned again this year, a group of aspiring young artists, ages 10 and
up, will be heading to the historic Cataldo Mission to learn and practice drawing
techniques.
On Saturday, September 21, thanks to the support of the Coeur d’Alene Tribe and the
Coeur d’Alene Casino, kids will be able to explore and draw the grounds of the his-
toric site of the oldest standing building in Idaho, the Cataldo Mission. With so much
to offer, the opportunity to practice drawing techniques is endless. Not only is the old
church a unique architectural structure, there is the Parish House, two cemeteries, a
nature trail, and a Smithsonian-quality visitor center featuring the Sacred Encounters
Exhibit and a great collection of important artifacts.
