he inherited sporting goods
store was a tremendous coach
in how to run a business —
learning that Terry has applied
liberally to his art career. He
also spent 18 years giving scuba
diving instruction, a testament
to his abiding fascination with
water (which manifests to this
day, especially in his newer
paintings.) Terry’s art spins webs
between whimsy, impressionism,
and realism, rarely settling very
long in one genre before rattling
against inevitable pigeonholing,
admiring copycats or simple en-
nui. I ask him whether he has a
preferred way he likes to look at
the world, and he replies without
missing a beat, “Color.”
