Manresa Castle was completed in 1892 as the home of Charles and Kate Eisenbeis , natives of Prussia , and has been featured in the Travel Channel series , “ Ghost Hunters ” and “ Most Terrifying Places in America .” Sadly , claims of a monk who hanged himself , and a young woman who jumped to her death after learning her beloved had died in the war are the two entities who are often seen , especially in rooms 302 , 304 , and 306 .

The rapid growth of Bellingham due to coal , lumber , and salmon canning necessitated the need for entertainment , hence the Mount Baker Theatre was built in 1927 , but under less than ideal circumstances . One of the theater ’ s most encountered specters , Judy , lost her home , which was razed in order to build said theater . Now she chases male employees and plays practical jokes on them , going so far as to sometimes pinch their bottoms . Another spectral resident is the feral cat in the basement that disappears when approached .

As you can see , there is no shortage of haunted sites in the Northwest . Do you have the mental fortitude to visit and explore them ? Do you even dare ? For me , my curiosity for the macabre is a double-edged sword . I really want to know if there truly are such things as ghosts , but I don ’ t necessarily want to come face-to-face with one . I imagine I ’ m not the only one , but if you are braver than I , and you decide to take a haunted road trip , I ’ d really love to hear about your experiences so that I may live vicariously through them .
