Evren Odcikin became part of the artistic leadership team in 2019 , as the Oregon Shakespeare Festival came out of the
COVID-19 pandemic . As Associate Artistic Director and Director of Artistic Programming , Odcikin oversees the programming and production of all the in-person events , including the repertory , Green Show , and other community productions .
Odcikin is an accomplished director in his own right , both at OSF and elsewhere . The two productions he has helmed at OSF are “ Unseen ” by Mona Mansour and “ This is Who I Am ” by Amir Nizar Zuabi .
“ My favorite Shakespeare is probably Macbeth ,” Odcikin says . “ It was the very first production I directed when I was 19 , and it ’ s as timely as it was then . The play ’ s exploration of power and greed in the context of the flawed nature of humanity is brilliant . And I ’ ve long been fascinated with the witches and the way Shakespeare plays with the concept of fate .”
Odcikin explains that putting together a production takes time and many steps . In an ideal timeframe , the full process at OSF is 18 months from selection to opening . With the COVID-19 pandemic , many of their timelines have been squeezed into as short as nine months . Because they are a repertory company , the selection of plays is an interlocked exercise . They
