THE ART OF
PUBLICATION PRINTING
HOW ART CHOWDER IS MADE
BY CARSON ALLEN
t ’ s a miracle you don ’ t have ink on your hands . These pages were once attached to a 3,000-pound paper roll , racing through ink rollers set at 250 degrees . They started out as digital files , were lasered onto aluminum sheets , put through just about a dozen different machines ( and hands ), then glued at the seam . Now they ’ re in the supermarket magazine aisle , sitting in the waiting rooms of Northwest doctors , lawyers , and dentists , and hopefully stacking up on your bedside table . Art Chowder was once a pulpy , inky , sticky mess , and thanks to Century Publishing Company , a premier commercial printer located in Post Falls , Idaho , you ’ re holding Art Chowder . Hands – ink-free .
