Art Chowder: Did you have a mentor along the way, or someone who encouraged you? daniel: My grandma was my biggest fan and encourager. But as far as a mentor, nobody specific has spent any huge time with me in the arts. I’ve had to find my own reasons to learn and grow through studying art history, practicing, and observing life. But there are a few who have been influential. Todd and Cain Benson were huge inspiration for me. Todd, especially, spent time messaging me when I first moved up here — he encouraged me, pointing out things he thought were good in me. He was so welcoming and kind. He would tell me, “Man, you’re going places!” He told me all the stuff I needed to hear and was real big in getting me to where I am today. I probably would have done something on my own, but when somebody believes in you and is there for you, it makes a big difference. 12 ART CHOWDER MAGAZINE
