have been ruined , poverty levels have risen dramatically , and resources have been stretched beyond their limits . Worst of all is that countless lives have been lost with many more succumbing to serious long-term illnesses while an overburdened health industry remains in crisis .
One of the hardest hit has been the hospitality and entertainment industry — causing many bars , theaters and music venues to be shut down for fast approaching two years now . This has utterly decimated the likes of live concerts , plays , recitals , movies , public meetings and conferences .
Everyone loves the excitement , enjoyment and fun atmosphere of a live music concert , and Spokane ’ s S . H . C . band knows this all too well . While many local bands and artists have either disbanded or put their talents on hold , S . H . C . through sheer determination , drive , and just a modicum of defiance , vowed that they will continue to perform their live music and deliver it to audiences in a safe and responsible way . This is how it was successfully achieved .
In a stroke of good fortune and indeed serendipity , S . H . C . was offered by a good friend of the band a spacious vacant warehouse — they nicknamed it “ The Tank ”— absolutely free of charge and with all services and amenities included . The members then soundproofed and decorated the large area to convert it into an attractive and audio controlled sound stage . After setting up all the musical equipment , instruments , sound mixers and lighting banks , the next stage was to incorporate a multi-camera video suite and
broadcast system with a vision to performing live online shows and recorded content to be viewed on YouTube and Facebook .
As a former senior producer and videographer for the BBC in Great Britain I felt confident in fulfilling this part of the project . After much research and with the invaluable help of Art Chowder publisher , Dean Cameron , we invested in a six-camera video station with live online broadcast capabilities . This fairly complex and sizeable system was easily fitted into the large sound stage complex , and after the cameras were positioned and the online video and sound tests were successfully carried out , S . H . C . broadcast the first of many totally live online broadcasts on the evening of Sunday , October 18th 2020 .
