to heal from . One accident left me with permanent issues . Now , I look forward to an empty queue , taking on projects one at a time , and more selectively , so I can continue to work and hone my skills at a more manageable level . I ’ ve worked very hard to get to a healthier place and with help from John , and friends , we are reaching that point .”
With every hurdle thrown at her , Allison continues to find her way over and around them . She is a remarkably resilient person and a skilled businesswoman . I asked what advice she might give to other artists with disabilities and her hard-won wisdom shows in her answer .
“ One of the hardest parts of my work has been growing pains . You work for years to get to a certain point and once you do it ’ s easy to get in over your head . I think the best recommendation I can give is , to be honest with your clients . Communicate , communicate , communicate ! Take it one project at a time because if you have twenty spoons from “ The Spoon Theory ” today , you may only have eight tomorrow so it ’ s important to be open and communicative with your partners and clients . That ’ s the first place a business will fail , if you aren ’ t communicating with your clients .
