confidence and the wise words of someone outside the arts program to “ keep it real ” ringing in her ears , Dara ventured forth .
This lasted for a season , but as life tends to do , Dara slipped into another dark period , COVID being a topper . In recent years she has experienced new struggles that have her unsettled and “ frenetic ” in her artistic endeavors . “ Over the past four years I found myself constantly changing my mind about everything .” After reviewing her old drawings , reacquainting herself with favorite artists , relocating to Spokane , and giving herself a new identity , Dara is experiencing a new-found freedom and realization that upcycling yourself creates an eclectic body of work that reflects who she is today . It has taught her how to appreciate the lemonade that is created from the lemons you ’ ve been handed .

In her first significant body of work since 2012 , Dara has amassed a unique collection which , of course , contains original works of oil on canvas possessing rich tonal bursts of color and creature mashups . She has new paper creations rendered via colored pencil , archival ink , stamping , watercolor markers , and acrylic . Dara has given birth to “ Word Ya-Ya ” which are upcycled objects on a 2D substrate of cabinet doors , utilizing the clever application of antique sewing pattern paper , creating a frame .
