natural world is her aim with this new body of work and upcoming show . In her newest paintings , she ’ s brought back little pieces of the verdant green rainforests of the Olympics , and depicted a profound experience of grounding and connection . “ I reconnected on that camping trip , especially with all of that beautiful mossy green . It has totally inspired my palette for the show which is all of these translucent colors .”
This escapism and other worldly feel , and deep roots buried in local nature and personal experiences exist together in her signature style , “ I love science fiction and fantasy ; it ’ s what I usually read and I think it shows up . I like other worlds and realms and things to escape to .” Kim ’ s appreciation for lore and legend leads her to capture very real and grounded subject matter in a mystical way , painting often beautiful but common things in a new magical light . She describes it as painting her own version of reality , “ stylized and decorative and embellished .”
This fall , Kim ’ s art can be found at TI-KI-DA , a November 5-30 gallery showing featuring TIm Lord , KIm Long , and DAra DeBast at New Moon Gallery , 1326 E Sprague , Spokane , WA .
