S
cott’s most recent venture brings
together his lifelong love of music, along
with his passion for artwork, coupled
with his self-taught construction skills.
He has built an impressive complex of
“live sound” rooms, plus a collection
of acoustically soundproofed rehearsal
rooms — which he is offering to the
local and regional music community
on a rental basis — to work on their
often loud projects in private and in a
controlled and conducive environment.
This environment has also been
transformed into a unique working art
gallery in which every wall surface in
every rehearsal room, studio and even
every corridor is adorned with full-
height mural paintings of iconic music
legends. Scott has painstakingly painted
these by hand with assistance from his
equally enthusiastic daughter Sarah,
herself a keen and highly accomplished
artist and guitar craftsperson.
Exploring these astonishing rooms
and corridors you find yourself totally
surrounded by artists and bands which
include David Bowie, Pink Floyd, Elvis
Presley, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder,
Joan Jett, Buddy Holly, the Beatles and
countless others. It all comes neatly
together to offer a most welcoming and
inspirational environment for artists and
musicians from every musical genre.
The future of Wilburn Custom Shop has
been well secured. Plans are already in
place for the family tradition to continue
when Scott is ready to hand the business
over to Sarah and her brother Stanton,
whose computer prowess will ensure
that the business’s technology will be
well-cared for.
