His work has won awards , been disparaged as too ( insert pearlgrasping descriptive word of your choice here ), been praised as groundbreaking , and graced the covers of many books . The man himself is a font of inspiration . He ’ s got an insatiable curiosity about the world , its people , and politics . He is a keen observer of all and says that ’ s what drives his artistic pursuits .
He comes by his talent naturally , crediting his mother ’ s side of the family .
“ I was born into an artistic family . My mother is a photographer , painter , and installationist . She loves creating art from found objects . My grandmother , grandaunty , and granduncle were watercolorists . Whenever they went out to paint ( I think I was still crawling ) they would throw something down on the ground and let me imitate what they were doing . So , I think I was probably painting or trying to paint before I could walk .”
Jensen did take the usual art classes in school , and for his 13th birthday his mother found a private instructor . “ After one lesson , the instructor said I didn ’ t need any formal training . I should just paint . Interestingly , when I approached my high school art teacher for a
