Can you smell it , my beloved Chowderheads ? Spring is in the air … every sight and every sound ! Those of you that are my vintage will now be humming “ Love Is in The Air ” by John Paul Young for the rest of the day . You ’ re welcome .
You are probably getting a sense of how excited I am to introduce you to our spring issue of Art Chowder . This season has seemed exceptionally long in coming , as we started winter in my neck of the woods in early November and did not see much of a reprieve until April . I confessed in the last issue that this is my favorite season , and I am beside myself with energy , plans , and expectations . I can only assume you will feel this infused in this issue as we bring you creatives ’ stories from across the Northwest .
Robin Bishop is Art Chowder ’ s editor in chief . She loves a challenge and has an affinity for asking questions that invite innovative solutions to individual and team challenges . She possesses a deep aversion to a “ We ’ ve always done it that way ” existence . Robin has a diverse background , but her passion is writing and bringing others ’ stories to life . She holds a bachelor ’ s degree in Professional and Creative Writing from Central Washington University and master ’ s degree in Organizational and Change Leadership from Gonzaga University .

There is so much goodness to highlight . I ’ m positive you ’ ll enjoy Tara Mickschl ’ s introduction to “ Anime and Manga ” in celebration of Asian Heritage Month , and M . J . Hudon ’ s highlight of two creatives , Duane Kirby Jenson and Nance Van Winckel , who are not just writers , but poets and artists . We also conclude Melody Fyre ’ s two-part story on the incredible history of fiber arts in the Northwest , while she also introduces us to artist Sheila Evans ( cover art ). Matthew Kincanon tells us how actress Elaine Miles began her acting career , and Sue Eller brings us the story of how stone tradesman Joey Marcella turned sculptor .
As usual , Tom Quinn delights us with his cartoon and schools us in the historical small wonders of miniature artworks , while Melville Holmes , classical artist and historical restoration specialist , takes us on his artistic journey in his own words . We ’ ll also hear from artist Angela Swanson in our Soul section , while Stephanie Regalado shares the burning fire of master carver James Madison Pasiukes .
Happy spring and happy reading !
