“ The Weeping Tree ”

Custom designed and crafted Carrara marble awards for Gary Sinise foundation . Given out in Las Vegas earlier this month . Personal and public thanks from Mr . Sinise .

It is carved entirely from solid marble , richly representative of Mediterranean culture . Both stones are from Italy . The white marble of the female figure is Bianco Carrara , from the same Tuscan quarry as Michelangelo ’ s “ David ,” and has subtle gray veins . The counterpart male figure is made from dark marble , Grigio Carnico , which is blackish gray with white veins . The two blocks are mirror opposites , and yet they complement each other . The intricate detail Joey Marcella evinces in all his work becomes manifest even in the early stages of his work on these larger-than-life figures .
When completed , “ Soulmates ” will be a little over six feet tall . Each block of marble weighs about 9,000 pounds . The finished product will weigh much less . An estimated completion date is for the summer of 2025 . The images depicted here are renderings of the finished piece , although one photo shows the female leg , in white marble , currently in production .
