You can ’ t even imagine how many young people we have in this community that have phenomenal talent worthy of Broadway . The SVPAC will change their lives .”
In response to the demand for a new center SVST is in their second year of a capital campaign that has plans to break ground this fall . Previous to this announcement , their performance season was limited to three performances each summer but with development of the new Spokane Valley Performing Arts Center ( SVPAC ) there will be year-round arts for all to enjoy .
Although they have always been able to produce incredible shows , the limitations of the size and season were always barriers . “ We can ’ t do anything more in the time and space allotment that we have ,” Johnson used to say . However , that is no longer her reality as she looks forward . “ This will keep our momentum going . We are ready to take that leap .”
A very talented and seasoned performer , Andrea Olsen , agrees . “ Great time and care has already been invested to ensure that our new home , SVPAC , can grow with us and serve all our current as well as potential future needs .” Olsen has been performing with this theater since it opened and Johnson says she has had the pleasure of directing her in over twenty shows .
“ Andrea could have been on Broadway . She is phenomenal . SVST provides a space for her to perform ,” Johnson adds . Not only will this expansion allow for artists such as Olsen to perform more , but she agrees it will take them to the next level .
“ The new center will offer better sightlines and more accessibility and comfort for
our audiences . With a full fly space we can utilize professional back-drops and scenery which will be easier to move on and off . This will streamline the show and offer a higher , more professional level of performance for our patrons . A larger backstage area as well as cutting edge technology in lighting and sound will increase the entertainment value of every production , giving audiences a better experience all the way around ,” Olsen adds .
“ Talent has to meet opportunities ,” Johnson says . “ There have not been enough opportunities for our local talent .” She feels that this state-of-the-art space will change that .
Another local talented couple of performers and educators that are thrilled for this new and improved space are Patti and Steve Mortier . “ There is just so much more theatrically that you can do when you have a “ real ” theater . You can invite big name artists in to perform where our young upcoming artists can learn from their expertise in a comfortable and loving environment ,” the couple says .
They are ready for our community to experience a theater with all of the bells and whistles ! Patti added , “ This theatre could make Spokane a theater destination ” and she seconded the notion that we have incredible talent here waiting to be discovered . “ You can ’ t even imagine how many young people we have in this community that have phenomenal talent
