As Spokane Valley completed building their new City Hall in 2017, discussion of a
gallery in the basement as a potential future project continued to circulate. “A gallery
with no walls,” the vision is to have lights, movable panels, and art suspended from
the ceiling. Details of inventory, curation, and other finite particulars are not yet
on the table, but the collection would fulfill Objective 4-D of the 2013 Parks and
Recreation Master Plan to “Encourage the acquisition, maintenance, and preservation
of public art that inspires and enriches citizens of Spokane Valley.”

The student scholarships are in a
moratorium for 2018, while SVAC
decides how to best sponsor art
students in the community. The first
three years of the program awarded
$14,000 to 12 high school seniors.
SVAC is not just for the visual
and fine arts. Members of their
board collaborate with local dance
associations and photography groups,
as well as assisting with the curating
of art displayed in libraries. A $25 membership allows artists to participate and
attend SVAC meetings.
All four not-for-profit arts organizations in the Inland Northwest have supportive
events and networking opportunities year-round. Below are a listed few. Whether
an artist is new to the Inland Empire scene, or a recognized mentor of their craft,
art is a form of communication that captures the human condition. Art can bring
people together, and the culture created by local arts organizations has adopted this
philosophy. Support of and participation with our arts organizations strengthens the
art community, as we move forward and present the growing collective talents in
Eastern Washington and North Idaho.
