Nishiki and Bartosz are considering a show together in the near future. They still need to choose a common theme, and though they are both experimenting with sculpture, they are still in the planning stages. Q: Any Advice for Artists in Relationships? A suggestion handed down over many generations from Bartosz’s friend is the popular marriage advice adaptation of Ephesians 4:26 “Don’t go to bed angry.” This is a contract both Nishiki and Bartosz have signed and placed as a reminder on the refrigerator. Nishiki: “Enjoy the process. Try to find the joy in balancing life and art.” Bartosz: “Two lions in one cage must find a way not to eat each other.” Bartosz and Nishiki Sugawara-Beda may appear to be different art- ists on the surface, yet both use language in their work: Nishiki with calligraphy as inspiration under a layer of water medium and Bartosz incorporating words to his paintings to add content.
