Art Chowder March | April, Issue 20 | Page 15

On your website you call your style “surreal abstract” — please explain that for our readers.  Katrina: I used the term “surreal abstract” to describe one category of my art. If you go into that page on my website you’ll see a few abstract pieces, and a few pieces that I can only describe as surreal at this point. Most recently I’ve learned that some of it has an element of expressionism. Whatever you call it, your work is beautiful. How long did it take to develop your style? Katrina: It’s taken me about twenty years to develop the style that I have now and it seems I’m always changing and growing. I pretty much resist the idea of finding my style and setting up camp there permanently. It’s too restrictive, although this may be where I stay. As long as no one tells me that I have to, then I’m more likely to. It’s really similar to other areas of my life. March | April 2019 15
