complete the mold , wax , seaming , chasing , and final assembly .” Cheryl is meticulous enough that she often does the chasing herself , a process of refining the imperfections and burs from the wax mold pieces to ensure they fit together and exactly match the original sculpt . These works are endeavors of love , but most definitely a commitment to perfecting the final product through great attention to detail .
Passion and “ obsession ” drive Cheryl ’ s desire to master her craft , and it has resulted in a wonderful gift to the world which she is paying forward . Her journey with sculpting began with a weekly sculpture class . Cheryl has attended this very same sculpture class every week since the day she began , only now she is facilitating them and helping others discover a passion for the medium . This is a three-hour sculpting session , with live models , where Cheryl makes herself available to attendees for guidance and instruction . “ It ’ s so cool to see new sculptors and artists find themselves enthralled with the medium .”
Cheryl has just recently been able to commit to full-time artist status . She has opened a studio in downtown Coeur d ’ Alene and looks forward to more public works and possible joint projects with young or new artists . She can be contacted via her website www . cherylmetcalf . com , at allaboutsculpture @ gmail . com , or by phone , 208.641.8380 .
