Still Growing...
When I was a young child my mother had a “growth wall” where we would stand and take
measurements. This would give us a visual of how much we were growing as time went by.
Art Chowder started life as an artist’s classifieds. It became famous immediately and then we
grew into arts and culture, covering visual/performing/culinary arts. Growth wall mark #1.
Then we grew into giving a voice in each edition to our regional arts associations and we are
growing still with plans to include more — giving our readers the scoop on what is being done
to enrich each of their communities. Growth mark #2.
Now we are growing by sponsoring a special art trip to Italy for 20 very lucky people. This will
be the first of a series of Art Chowder art tours around the world. You would think that would
be growth enough, but no … we are stretching even further, as Art Chowder and Family Guide
will be putting together the first annual “Rally the Valley Art Fair” on June 22nd and 23rd, 2019
at Spokane Valley City Hall (read more about it in this issue.) Growth mark #3.
Now we surely are done growing, right? Nope! Art Chowder magazine has put together a
community fundraising package called “Arts – Culture & Community.” Art Chowder will be
working with numerous nonprofits, schools and churches to help them raise funds, while getting
the word out about the talented artisans in our Inland Northwest region. Growth mark #4.
As I see it, we still have a lot of room on that wall to grow and add marks. We will always keep
our eyes and ears open to see how we might continue to reach new heights. Our goal is to be
the voice of the arts, the supporter of community and the treasure of our readers. Keep your
eyes on Art Chowder (shameless plug for you to subscribe)! We will keep growing our reach to
support the arts and culture of our region while helping cultivate a vibrant community with your
help and support.
