hen asked about her
influences she said, “I am
inspired by other people and
what they put into what they
do. I like to see people really
doing something. I have never
been to India but am intrigued
by the illustrations of figures
and the bas relief sculptures.”
Elsie is supportive of other
artists and tries to attend their
events and buy art that they
create. Elsie thinks of herself
as a collector, especially of
photography. She has art both
in and outside of her house
including a large sculpture by
John Jankowsky. Some of her
favorite bronzes are by her
sister-in-law, Mary Hannah,
who was her high school art
teacher.
“My heart is in a
different place now
with changes in my life.
Some of this is fear —
fear that the work won’t
be seen or appreciated
by the people who
would get it.”
