PALIMPSEST : SHAPING OUR CITIES WITH VIRTUAL REALITY JOHN RUSSELL BEAUMONT
Biography Russell Beaumont , Haavard Tveito and Takashi Torisu worked together in the Interactive Architecture Lab , a network of designers based at the Bartlett , UCL . Their work explores how technologies can preserve architecture , how they foster appreciation for urban history , and can facilitate participatory design .
Talk Can virtual reality be a tool for social change ? Using 3D scanning and virtual reality , the palimpsest records personal stories and local histories , layering them over the city at a 1:1 scale . We aim to create more inclusive planning practices , using emerging technology to directly connect communities , governments , and developers in conversation . We also create historical documents , recording spaces and stories that might otherwise be lost .
