2013 “Realtor of the Year”
Houston Association of Realtors
Houston artist Kevin Peterson is the winner of the
$50,000 Hunting Art Prize for 2015.
The painting was selected from over 100 finalists in
the 35th annual award program, which is sponsored
by the global oil services company and is the most
generous annual art prize in North America for
painting and drawing.
Peterson has been a finalist five times in the last eight
years and his entry was featured on the annual
Hunting Art Prize keepsake poster produced in 2008.
Announcement of his winning came during an
evening awards gala on May 2 at the Friedkin
Companies Campus, Gulf States Toyota, in Houston.
"It is such a privilege to be included among the
unbelievably gifted artists who have been named
winners of this prestigious prize," said Peterson. "As a
longtime participant in the competition, I have to say
this is an incredible accomplishment and a
life-changing recognition. I couldn't be more honored
to earn this generous award."
Peterson's works explore the varied journeys of life,
detailing the experience of growing up and living in a
world that is broken. His paintings address trauma
and fear, and bring forth the loneliness and strength
required to survive and thrive.
Contrasting the untainted innocence of youth with a
worn, ragged, and defiled world, his works
encompass divergent themes of support versus
restraint, bondage versus freedom, and tension versus
slack, while communicating feelings of isolation,
loneliness, and longing that are teamed with an
optimistic sense of hope.
His works have been shown around the globe,
including in shows and exhibitions in Germany,
California, New York, and Florida. He studied art at
Austin College in Sherman, Texas, where he earned
a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2001.
