S ince the debut of the hit TV show “American Idol” more than a decade ago, Arrupe Idol has been a staple of the summer program. Throughout the five weeks, each Advisory works on creating its own song, dance and whatever additional performance they think will ‘wow’ the audience. This year, the Arrupe Idol contest had some serious competition, with some impressive songs—lyrics changed to showcase Arrupe—and some cool dances planned by the students themselves. We even had the first Arrupe Idol music video, believe it or not! Each Advisory had the opportunity to perform in front of the entire camp, and the Green Shirts served as judges for the preliminary round. Then, only four groups advanced to the finals, which were judged this year by the Arrupe Explorers. The judging showed that the top performances were really close—creativity and energy were on full display this year! The winners of the 2016 Arrupe Idol competition were: Ms. Moreno and Ms. Antall’s Advisory for 3rd-4th grade, and the MAGIS group for 5th-6th grade.
