I love opening a new bag of clay, both physically
and philosophically. It is like a beginning of the
beginning. Not emptiness any more, but already a
growing thought, full of excitement: what is going
to happen next...? The first movement cutting clay
that is soft, moist, cold, dense and smooth all at
once, feels divine. dishes in the cupboard for special occasions has
prevailed many generations. Therefore, I feel it is
important to remind ourselves, that also ordinary
moments should be festive. I wish that art and
beauty comfort us in our everyday lives. I wish that
my gilded plates were used for ordinary sand-
wiches.
I love the challenge of creating something that
is beautiful and practical at once, to combine
aesthetics with comfort. In my work the minima-
listic, scarce and restrained Nordic form meets
with abundant colours and opulent decor. I am a third generation artist in my family. With
great respect and humbleness I try to keep and
pass onwards what my grandparents and parents
capture in their art. That is infinite devotion and
their perfectionist attitude towards the realization
of their creations. There are so many ideas in the
world, but if they are not well executed, they kind
of remain unborn.
I love my work, although like all real love it also
hurts sometimes.
